My week through glass at SDCC 2014

What an incredibly unforgettable and wonderful week at the San Diego Conic con.  Not only did I have the most incredible show ever, but I got to document it ALL thanks to Google Glass and illustrator/developer/ Glass explorer , Justin Chung .

Quick heads up, these next few posts are going to be very long and will have many, many pictures. 

Since I'm sure there are many of you who want to go but weren't able to, and for those who are curious as to what the experience is like, I am going to do my best to bring an idea of the experience to you.

Wednesday- July 23rd.
 I spent the night before packing the rest of my outfits for the week.  I didn't think I was going to be going to the convention but a lot of business came up that I couldn't miss, so .... here I am packing last minute.  I would pack and nap an hour or 2..up until 9 am when I slept past my alarm and woke up to a text letting me know that my carpool buddies, Eric and Leah Rose were sitting on my porch, playing with my tortoise waiting for me.  Whoops.
So, we packed up the car and before leaving state we stopped for a huge breakfast.  San Diego Comic con is an adventure.  Five very long days of adventuring.  So, starting the with a good breakfast is PERFECT!!!!
After the long drive to San Diego, I met up with Justin on the floor and hung out for the rest of the night.  Apparently, my way in Guillermo del Toro stopped by the table and was looking at Justin's art, which included my pinups.

I said hi to everyone there and decided to walk Eric around to show him some of the main booths and places to be.  I only made it about half-way through but at least I got to see --

When I got back to the table Justin told me that he brought an extra pair of Google glass for me to wear for the weekend.  Whaaa?!?!? I was beyond excited.  I've worn them before, but never had a pair to explore with on my own.  This was going to be an incredible week! On the way to the hotel I took some last minute cell phone pics  and Justin got a pic of me before the glass experience started.

 In San Diego you share a room with multiple people..... 99.9% of the time.  This time I was fortunate enough to be room sharing at the Omni which was immediately across the street from the convention center.  As soon as we got in the room, Justin helped to get me started with the setup. 
Glass Setup- It couldn't get easier.  I launched the play store on my phone (Android OS) and installed 'My Glass'.  It had me pair my device with the phone through the number it provided me, had me answer a few setup questions and then I was set.  My phone and the glass were paired.
The setup on the pair of glass that was on my face was also pretty simple. Just a simple tap on the side would turn them on and a swipe forward or backwards allowed me to navigate through the menus.  I was asked to set the tilt so that I could have the glass turn on with a head nod, I calibrated it so that it would take a picture with just a wink, and I was able to set it so that if I got a message, me glancing at the 'screen'  after I heard a light beep would make the message appear.  If I didn't want to be/couldn't be bothered by the message, I wouldn't look and the screen wouldn't even light up.  It was incredibly convenient.

Thursday- July 24th

 

I'm going to be using Glass all weekend, I might as well learn how to use it. Yup, I'm doing my nails.  A 'getting ready for the con' pic that would have been a little harder to take with my phone.

 It's still mid-week so it doesn't seem too busy yet....

 Oh wait- massive line.  They must want to see some celebrity. I ask, "What is the line for guys?" everyone smiles, "Catching Fire!."  I think, how great, this line is at least 2 blocks how fun, they'll get to see Jennifer Lawrence or Liam Hemsworth.  As I continue walking I wonder- panel? signing? what? So I ask.  The answer? A pin and a sticker.  That's all.  The stars of the movie aren't going to be anywhere around, these fans just want a collectible item from a series they love.  How wonderful.

I was getting the hang of glass, walking around winking while walking to practice taking pictures.  The pictures that the glass takes are incredible in the fact that you get a very wide frame.  You can stand right up to something and you'll capture everything your eye could see.

Hey, real quick, before I leave

I never thought I'd be so busy before heading off for Louisiana but- it's been pretty much insanity around here.
Late last week was making sure to meet up with my friend Cheryl, soon to be bride.  I'm one of her bridesmaids so we went over decorations, reception plans, etc.  Cheryl also happens to do makeup and her fiance is Dennis, of Dennis Mong Photography. So, we ended up going to Phoenix, finding some incredible art and shooting :)

Then, Wednesday, it was time for me to get updated headshots.  When you get headshots, depending on who you go to, you usually do different looks and shots.  So, I did not only headshots but 3/4 and full body.  Oh, the things you need for casting.

After an entire day and afternoon of shooting....and running on zero sleep, I made it home with 3 hours to get ready for a commercial shoot.  I napped for about and hour and then grabbed my stuff and ran out the door to film.  I had a fantastic time filming and then went out for sushi!!!!
 I am supposed to film one more commercial before I leave for NOLA.  That should be next week at some point.  With the shooting, filming and upcoming move, I will not be able to make it to SDCC this year :(  This will be the first time in 4 years that I will miss the show.  I'm sad because conventions are one of the only times that I get to see and spend time with my friends (my con-family), but, I must leave that for later in the year, as my career is calling.

You can see me briefly in the 2nd episode, entitled 'Detective Comics Store,' guest starring Jim O'heir from the award winning comedy, Parks and Recreation.  I had such a great time working on the show and can't wait to go back and work on the next episodes.  Got geek cred? #GetSome

Moving, changing, loving, leaving

It's time.  For change.  Big, life changing steps that will help me to get further.  I've been traveling for conventions for the past few months, meeting new people, getting new opportunities, but missing out on the ability to really practice what I am working towards...and that is to continue and grow my acting career.  Geek Cred, my last project, is going strong but there is only 1 episode left and we aren't filming season 2 just yet...so.....

In just a few days I'll be moving across the U.S. and auditioning my ass off!  And I'm road tripping it, meaning I'll have lots of pics and updates to share along the way.  I may physically be moving alone... but you are all going along with me and I'll make sure not to leave too much out. 

I'm thinking of doing something new while at my new place.  Should I--
Do a workout/nutrition blog complete with pics and video?
Do tech blogs and occasional videos?
Review movies?
write for a few sites like before -- like comic book and horror news sites?

What WHAAAATTTTTTT should I do?!?!?!

 I'm also getting rid of my print stock before I leave so I have my online store open for the next few days until I leave.  Prints are on sale, I have packages and no matter what you buy- I am sending you a free 11x17 and more. :)

Lovely 2014

I'm back!!  Shortly... I have to let you all know my schedule because the next few months I'll be traveling like crazy and won't always have an opportunity to keep you updated through all of my other media sites. 
Lets just start with last weekend- I did my first shoot as a blondie with Larry Alan- click his name for the full set-

Tomorrow I leave for Long Beach.  I'll be at a festival there so you probably won't have an opportunity to see me...until....this weekend for Free Comic Book Day!!!  I'll be at Jesse James Comics in Glendale, AZ with the incredibly talented Nei Ruffino, and JP Roth. It will be a party to remember so come out and get free comics, hang out and be awesome.

In between all of this I already have 3 films that I am going to be working on which includes 2 feature length and 1 shorter project with one of my favorite teams (think hard you can probably guess with who). Also, since we finished the first 5 episode of Geek Cred, we should be filming again, hopefully before I leave for Louisiana.
By the way- Geek Cred-- AMAZEBALLS!!  I'll post a separate post with tons of pics but this series had me laughing my ass off during filming.  The talent!! The talent!!!!  Plus we have a special guest star in almost every episode so far, and sometimes multiples in an episode.

Time is valuable

I sit here daily posting pics and setting up posts for Facebook to try and stay connected to everyone, while at the same time promoting myself and the numerous projects that I am working on...or believe in.  In turn, I neglect writing here, which I think is more important, I neglect Google +, Facebooks' ever changing rules make my audience SOOO much smaller week by week...and I'm simply wasting my time.
SO-- you and I should both know by now that a promise of a blog post daily, or even weekly isn't something that I'll stick to.. but I will be moving here more often.  I can write to you in depth, tell you what I'm working on without it being lost in the jumble of FB adds and I can tell you how I feel about the projects.....not to mention post a shit ton of pics instead of 1 at a time.  Don't even get me started on those FB albums.  Wahhh wah wahhh.
Today- is a good day.  I am finishing reading the scripts from Geek Cred and will be heading to LA to work on the series in a week and a half.  I am going to script supervise and act in the series.  The cast is AMAZING and I absolutely can not wait to work with them.  A great, funny male cast and funny, intelligent, hot comic chicks *Michele Boyd and Miley Yamamodo? Yes please. The series is also bringing on special guests like Jim O'heir and Stephanie Beatriz and...it all takes place in a comic shop.  An actual comic shop...not some store front and studio. Legit.  I'll post whatever I can post during production too as well as everything else I get into in LA.
Also new...I've shot for some new projects! I am doing a card series with 5FINITY. The cards are already sold out :) Here is a pic from the shoot that I have up for presale on my store

Know who else is a part of the same project? Adrianne Motherfucking Curry! Who else? Miss Jessica Nigri, Leanna Vamp (Oh how I love that girl) and few other lovely ladies.
I shot with my shenanigan team up team- Larry Alan and Tara Hutchison for both Tara's new lookbook and Larry's new book, which will be out later this year. I think we shot 7 different looks in one very long, very fun....then very drunk night.

Then at the end of the February I got to work with Vanessa of Visualize Creativity for Tempe's Geek's Night out! I hadn't been painted by her since my Ivy at Phxcc 2010! So.. we thought of a character and she created female Joker. I have to say it's my favorite cosplay to date.  It was SO much fun! God damn, shit your pants she's a good artist!  

Annnnnnddddd-- - to top off a fantastic February, Miss Amanda Tucker from Modified Minds had an interview published in this months Java Magazine. Guess what picture they chose....

The crazy last months of the year. Goodbye 2013.

Happy New Year!!!!  We've made it through another year with stories to share and more to make.
Speaking of stories, I owe you all an ending to my 2013.
June- at the end of the first week of June my friend Cheryl and I drove to L.A. for the premiere of a movie I am in called 'Salvation' starring Ryan Donowho, Angel McCord, Brett Donowho and Giovanna Zacarias.

After the premiere, Cheryl and I stayed an extra day, went to a thrift shop in Beverly Hills -- and then it was back to Arizona. I had 3 days to get ready and then it was on to the Amazing Las Vegas Comic con with artists Mike DeBalfo, and some artists from Spiral Ink Comics; Rob Hicks and Derrick Tipton.  The convention was fantastic, I got some art, some signed comics and made new friends-- that's the important part, right?

After the convention I dropped the men off in Arizona, bought a new dress and headed back to L.A. to attend 'The Conjuring' premiere at the LA Film Fest with my friend and the talented director of the movie, James Wan.

The night was a blast. We stayed through both screenings of the film and then rushed to the afterparty.  The night ended quickly and then it was off to see my love and fellow cosplayer Toni Darling. Before heading back to AZ I did a spur of the moment shoot with Larry Alan-

July- I got to breathe a bit at the end of June which was a necessary because July was going to be another busy month.  At the beginning of the month I finally joined and got my SAG/Aftra card-- YAY!!!  This means that now I can work on even bigger films.  This is a very good thing :)

I spent a good amount of time over at Amanda's because we were making a custom Hit-Girl together with the creator/writer of Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2, Mr. Mark Millar.  Before the debut of the costume, I was off to LA again with Amanda.  This time I was invited to the red carpet premiere of 'The Conjuring.'
  The big one, THE premiere-- along with the entire cast.  Tara Hutchinson did my hair and makeup and then I met up with director James Wan to go walk the carpet, to his first ever red carpet premiere.

 After the premiere was the most incredible after party.  I wish I could describe it for you, but I just don't think that I can recreate the magic in words.  It was a giant party with the entire cast, delicious food, free flowing drinks and the most attentive staff I've ever encountered.  

 

The very next day I left for Arizona to finish packing for SDCC where I would debut Grown Up Hit-Girl. 

If you haven't ever been to the San Diego Comic Con, to make a very long story short- it's Wednesday through Sunday and non-stop walking, partying, networking, cosplaying and walking ridiculous amounts.  I dressed up every day, hung out with Justin Chung who had a new pin-up piece of me

 and also had just become a Google glass explorer! The weekend was absolutely FULL of epicness.  During the convention, 'The Conjuring' opened at #1 (and is now  in the top 5 of the highest grossing horror films of ALL TIME!---- Good freaking job, James.)  I got to see my good friend JD Smith, who now works for Fangoria-- bad assery.  I hung out with friends and....I debuted my Hit-Girl.  

August- I got to relax in August.  Amanda and I worked on Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and Princess Mononoke, both of which I debuted at the Saboten Con where I was a guest and the MC for the cosplay costume contest.  The convention started on Aug.31st and while I was attending, I got 2 jobs in LA-- so as SOON as the convention was over 

September 2nd, to be exact- I left AGAIN for LA.  This time I was a body double for a dvd cover, I did some background in a film with Ted McGinley and Grant Goodeve

and then I worked as script supervisor on a film, Ad Lucem, starring the metal band 'Queensryche!'.

After the first 2 weeks of the month, I was back in AZ and making a new costume for the Las Vegas Comic Expo which was at the end of the month.  Here is what I came up with...Wednesday Addams! I got a photo shoot done and then hung out in Las Vegas for the end of the month. 

This brings us to--- October!

If you've hung in this far you're almost through-- I only have 3 more months to go! 

The Las Vegas con took me into October, I came BACK to AZ, did a mermaid photo shoot with Grant Brummet and Toni Darling

and then was a guest at the Rapture Horror con.  I LOVE horror conventions! I got to meet some other great guests and meet new people that came in from around Arizona.

After the convention I was cast and filmed for not one but TWO commercials.  I filmed spots/commercials that will be playing in Home Depot's in 17 different states.  Those should be out in the spring of 2014.  I had 2 movies release, Camp 139 and Death by VHS and I started work on a new costume with Kip from Kipsworld.

November started with the Tucson Comic con.  I went hiking and busted up my knee, shot for Larry Alan's new book called The Fun Book

Finally..it was time for Thanksgiving and family!

December-- This was my rest month :)  At the beginning of the month I worked, again, with ModifiedMinds on 2 new dresses.  I was hosting the first night of films, along with an AZ local actor, Shane Dean at the Filmstock Film festival  There was a red carpet and media the entire weekend so we whipped up some red carpet dresses.

That brings us to the end of December.  I did a tutorial video with Amanda and Tara and then enjoyed the rest of December.  

Happy 2013 and an even happier 2014!!  I already have a full January...  which I'll let you all in on soon!  I can't believe I packed so much in to the year-- now I challenge myself to do even MORE this year.  hehehehehe
